I started running when I was 14 years old as a way to lose weight (I was a bit of a husky kid). Was it love at first sight? Absolutely not. But I kept at it. I then started doing cross country in high school where I truly started to enjoy running. For some reason, I quit running in college and started lifting weights instead. Throughout this whole time I was injury free. Not even a niggle. It wasn't until I got back into running in my mid twenties where I started to get injuries.
Patellofemoral pain, Iliotibial (IT) band syndrome, foot injuries, hip impingement... every few months seemed to be a roll of the dice over which body part would get injured and affect my running. I stopped running, felt a bit better, started running again, and the pain returned.
I started taking care of my body more seriously when I was studying to get my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Learning about injury management and directly applying those concepts to myself helped me get back into running healthy again. In my professional career, I've worked with countless runners in the clinic to help them understand their injuries and get back on the road.
I started Tempo Rehab as a way to educate more runners outside the clinic with evidence-based knowledge, realistic applications, and clear content.
The majority of runners get hurt at some point. It's impossible to reduce your injury risk to zero. I'm here to empower and educate you to get back on the road after dealing with injuries safely and progressively.
